Abstract
The design idea is the foundation on which the architectural design process. It is the basis for creating a distinguished architectural product that reflects the designer's thoughts, orientations, and way of thinking, whether within the black box or the glass box. Generating and selecting alternatives is one of the most important stages, followed by translating the alternative formally and functionally according to the design methodology followed by the designer and according to the design specifications represented by the type of project and its contextual constraints. In the context of architectural work, the research focuses on defining the design idea, the design process, and the different methods of representing those ideas. Several studies have been proposed on how to build the design idea, and from these studies, the research problem was identified: the lack of a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the methodology used to represent design ideas and alternatives in academic institutions in general. Therefore, this research aims to propose a specific structure for student academic outputs to ensure satisfactory results. It also investigates the key factors that influence these outputs and how to choose and achieve them. A questionnaire was used with a sample of students, starting from the construction of the idea to the stages of its formal and functional completion, in order to achieve the research objective.
