Abstract
Postoperative pain following cardiac surgery can be severe and debilitating, often hindering functional recovery and worsening patient outcomes. Recent advancements have shifted toward opioid- sparing techniques, which aim to reduce reliance on opioids for pain relief, with regional anesthesia emerging as a key approach. Regional anesthesia numbs specific nerves or nerve groups to provide targeted pain relief. Several practices have been developed, leading to rapid advancements in this field. This article reviews the different regional anesthesia techniques, their clinical implications, advantages, and disadvantages, and the evidence from the literature supporting their use.
